Learning Opportunities in the Citizen's Academy The Mount Pleasant Police Department sponsors a Citizen's Police Academy at least once a year, usually in the spring and/or fall. We only accept applications from Mount Pleasant city residents. The Citizen's Police Academy is a unique opportunity for both the Police Department and citizens. This program is designed to educate community members so that they will have a better understanding of what we do and why we do it. This program consists of 6 weeks of classroom lectures, ride-along programs and hands-on exercises. Program topics include:
Texas Penal Code
Traffic Stops (Felony and Non-Felony)
Use of Force
Meeting Information The Citizen's Police Academy classes are held one evening per week. Class members are required to ride at least four hours and complete two hours observing a dispatcher prior to graduating. Once class members complete the program, they become a part of the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association, where they continue to have interaction with, and provide support to the Police Department.
