We are bursting with Mount Pleasant Pride as we congratulate The Priefert Family, who were inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame on Thursday, January 16, during a dinner event preceding the start of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

This is the highest honor bestowed on individuals who have shown excellence in competition, business and support of rodeo and the western lifestyle in Texas.

Of course, the Mount Pleasant community already knew The Priefert Family was legendary.

It all began in 1964, when Marvin Priefert built his first headgate in a one-room shop on his farm. His first piece of ranch equipment revolutionized the livestock handling industry and became the foundation of one of the largest and most respected ranch equipment manufacturing companies in the business.

Now in its third generation of leadership, Priefert Rodeo & Ranch Equipment is still family owned and operated under the leadership of Marvin’s son, Bill, and grandsons Eddie, Nate and Travis with a production facility in Mount Pleasant that includes over 20 acres under one roof. Additional divisions include Priefert Complex Designs, Priefert Logistics and Priefert Steel Sales.

“The Priefert family made life easier for all farm and ranch families with the headgate, the predecessor of the squeeze chute,” said Mount Pleasant City Manager Ed Thatcher, who was among the 800 attendees at the induction ceremony, where Big Tex Trailers of Mount Pleasant also received numerous shout outs.

“We are truly blessed to be inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, and honored to be associated with the inductees of the past and future,” said Eddie Priefert, president of the company. “But, we have to give the glory to God, and our immense appreciation to all of our employees. Our family did not do this alone. We’ve had a lot of good people who have helped us along the way.”

The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is located in the Fort Worth Stockyards at 2515 Rodeo Plaza. The new Dickies Arena nearby features Priefert chutes, gates and panels. Learn more about Priefert Rodeo & Ranch Equipment on their website or their Facebook page.
