Active Shooter
Have you ever thought about what you would do if you came across someone actively shooting at people?  An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined populated area.  Within the last five years there have been numerous high-casualty producing active shooter incidents.  Most of these cases have occurred in locations where the shooter has been undeterred and unobstructed from carrying out their attack.  These situations are not confined to highly populated areas and can occur anywhere, even in our community.

According to a New York City Police Department (NYPD) statistical analysis report , 46 percent of active shooter incidents are ended by the application of force by police or security, 40 percent end in the shooter’s suicide, 14 percent of the time the shooter surrenders or, in less than 1 percent of cases, the violence ends with the attacker fleeing.

The Houston Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security created a video for the public to discuss what to do in the event you find yourself in a situation where someone is actively shooting at people.  This video provides clear guidance in decision making and what you should consider if you find yourself in a similar situation.
