National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) April 13-19, 2025
Special Employee Spotlight – Kiana Stewart
!!Meet Kiana!!
Kiana is a native of Mount Pleasant and has been a dispatcher in the police department for 11 years. I can only imagine how difficult and stressful her job must be. Dispatchers are the vital communication link between fire, medical, and police. They handle both emergency and non-emergency calls. Dispatchers monitor radio alarms, they take incoming calls from the public, including 9-1-1 emergency calls. Once phone calls are assessed, dispatchers determine the appropriate response, and dispatch resources. It takes a special person like Kiana to deal with high pressure situations. She says she does it because she loves helping the community and we are so thankful that she has chosen to do what she does.
Kiana is adventurous and loves to explore nature in her spare time. She also likes to write music and try new restaurants. When asked what her favorite childhood memory was, she said riding around with her grandparents and listening to the blues. Music has a way of shaping us as well as binding certain emotions to songs or genres of music when we hear it. What a special memory, thank you for sharing that with us Kiana and thank you for serving your community. Your service has not gone unnoticed!
