UPCOMING EVENTS

A few things to look forward to at the library include our genealogy help provided by our wonderful volunteer.

Whether you are starting to map your family tree or stuck, stop by the library for this free assistance. The genealogy room is available for your research, with computers set up for you to access ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. The room is also equipped with a scanner, allowing you to upload family photos to these websites and digitally archive them. A family tree would make a wonderful gift for the family around Christmas and would allow you and your family to sit down and talk about family members who have passed. Genealogy help is available for free on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m., call the library to schedule an appointment. Take advantage of these great resources to discover your family history!

On Friday, April 5th at 6 p.m. is our Star Trek Party celebrating First Contact. Join us for an evening filled with trivia, crafts, snacks, and more intergalactic fun! Test your knowledge of the Star Trek universe during the trivia competition. Create your own Star Trek-themed crafts and accessories. Whether you’re a seasoned Trekkie or just getting into the franchise, this party is designed for teens and adults to have fun embracing Star Trek fandom together. Celebrate First Contact with us at the library! Costumes are welcome but not required.

Another event occurring at the library is a book signing for Kevin McPeters’ first book called Union: Origins. Stop by the library on Saturday, April 6th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to have a copy signed and meet the author. Union: Origins is an exciting fantasy novel. When a disguised evil threatens Cirran, capital of the Western Kingdoms, Garrack Raynor is compelled into action to save his beloved city. A commoner blacksmith whose preference is solitude, Raynor must accept the assistance and skills of his Union while navigating complex family dynamics and new relationships. Their journey sends them on an escalating series of trials plagued with continual challenges and decisions that will determine the fate of their city and the way of life as they have always known. You can purchase a copy of the book beforehand, ensuring that you will have a copy ready for signing, or you can purchase one at the book signing event. Don’t miss this chance to get a personized copy and discuss the fantastic world McPeters has created with the author himself!

RECOMMENDED READING

The top pick for Library Reads in April is The Husbands by Holly Gramazio. Lauren, who’s single, comes home to find not only is she married, but she doesn’t recognize her husband. She discovers that by sending a husband to the attic, she can replace him with a new model – and there seems to be a never-ending supply. Th quirky nature of the book, humorous writing, charming characters and the unbelievable situation will have readers completely engrossed. (4-2) Douglas Beatty

Continuing the list of engaging fiction selections, Amor Towles returns to write Table for Two: Fictions. Towle’s literary fiction never disappoints. In this collection of short stories and a novella, readers will be entranced by his use of sophisticated and smart language to convey aspects of the human condition. Highly recommended for book clubs and lovers of short stories. (4-2) Julie Klein

Another charming novel featured on the Library Reads list is Sarah Adams’ for The Rule Book. Nora lands her first client as a sports agent, and it happens to be her ex-boyfriend from college. Derek, a tight end pro football player, needs all the help he can get to revive his career. Upbeat and engaging, this sports romance book is breezy with fun characters and plenty of heart. (4-2) Andrienne Cruz

Shifting to thrilling psychological suspense, Mary Kubica’s She’s Not Sorry will have readers on the edge of their seats. Meghan Michaels, a single mom and ICU nurse, finds her life upended when a young patient named Caitlin is admitted with a severe brain injury after an apparent bridge jump. However, a witness comes forward claiming Caitlin may have been pushed, raising disturbing questions about what really happened. As Meghan gets closer to Caitlin and her family while providing care, she becomes entangled in their lives and the mysterious circumstances surrounding the incident. Startling revelations emerge that make Meghan realize her own safety, and that of her daughter, could now be in jeopardy. (4-2)

On a different note, another review from one of our patrons, Don Sides, highlights a fascinating history book. On our shelves is a fascinating history of America passing through a time of great turmoil. Bloody Crimes: The Chase for Jefferson Davis and the Death Pageant for Lincoln’s Corpse by James Swanson, chronicles the last days of the leaders of the Civil War and America’s memorials and healing.
