Five authors made the January Library Reads Hall of Fame, including Rachel Hawkins with The Heiress. In this gothic thriller, Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore is North Carolina’s richest woman and its most notorious. In the aftermath of her death, her adopted son, Camden, wants little to do with the house or the money. Camden and his wife are drawn back to Ashby House when his uncle dies. As the home and family tighten their grip, mysterious questions concerning Ruby come up and Camden comes to realize that the bonds of family stretch far beyond the grave.
Also on the list is Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire. In this final book from the award-winning WayWard Children series, Antsy is the latest student to pass through the doors at Eleanor West’s School for Wayward Children. When the school’s “mean girl” threatens Antsy, she flees with a small group and looks for The Shop Where Lost Things Go. As they travel from world to world, more than one student’s life will be changed forever. This book assures us that getting what you want doesn’t always mean finding what you need.
Alex Michaedlides, bestselling author of The Silent Patient, returns with The Fury. The narrator, Elliot Chase, leads the story about a movie star who takes a small group to a Greek Island for a tranquil vacation. What ensues ends in murder. This masterful thriller will keep you turning the pages as the story twists and turns.
Katee Robert made the list with Midnight Ruin, number six in the Dark Olympus series. This is a hot, modern retelling of Eurydice and Orpheus and Charon. Eurydice has always been the innocent sister, but she thinks she’s ready to step out of the shadows and take her position in the powerful family. Three hearts and three futures are involved in this love story. There are so many ways it can go wrong.
The final author named to the Hall of Fame is Stacy Willingham with Only If You’re Lucky. This is a story of four college girls, four distinct personalities and one murder. The novel is a tantalizing thriller about friendship, belonging, loyalty, envy, and betrayal. If you enjoyed the author’s earlier books, A Flicker in the Dark and All the Dangerous Things, you’ll like this one.
We don’t know about the weather, but we do know you can find great books and activities at the library. See you there!
