LIBRARY CORNER | 06/23/23

If you have ANY interest in learning about and possibly building a family tree, we have a great opportunity for you to do so.

The library has a subscription to Ancestry.com and access to Family Search. Even with these tools, most folks need a little help on how to get started with their research and just what to “do.” Debbie Thatcher has graciously volunteered to work with us Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 2-4. Of course, you can just drop by, but it’s better to call and make an appointment so that you won’t have to wait. Debbie has worked extensively with genealogy and can help you get started. And important to everyone—it’s free! Call us at 903-575-4180.

Summer Reading and Fun is in full swing. More than 500 kids have signed up to read at least three hours per week. It’s so gratifying to see their progress and to see how much fun they’re having. This Monday, June 26, Jeanette and Natalie will be at Little Rascals and AA’s Tree House. Tuesday, June 27, don’t miss Story Time at 11 a.m. Wednesday’s Maker Space begins at 3 p.m. Then on Thursday, June 29, Jeanette and Natalie will be bringing the bubbles to Ignite at 9:30 a.m.

Back to June’s Hall of Fame authors, including Alexis Hall with Mortal Follies. “Maelys Mitchelmore thinks she is cursed, and every time something embarrassing, tragic, or downright terrifying happens, Lady Georgianna Landrake is right there. Rumor has it that Lady Georgianna is a wicked enchantress. Is she behind the curse, or can she save Maelys from the spirits that plague her? This is a rollicking Regency romance featuring charming characters and a clever premise; ideal for fans of historical rom coms.” (6-6) Nanette Donahue

The Only One Left is by Riley Sager. “Kit lost her job as a home health aid when a patient died under suspicious circumstances. She is given one last opportunity of employment: a job that requires her to care for Lenora Hope, longtime suspect in the murder of her whole family. This twisty Gothic mystery will leave savvy thriller readers and fans of Verity by Colleen Hoover gasping until the very last page.” (6-20) Jayme Oldham

Known for her books built around New York iconic buildings, Fiona Davis’s new one is The Spectacular. “Marion Brooks loves to dance. This is the 1950s though, and her father is not so thrilled, but she has been able to balance her love of dance and family by teaching in a dance studio. When she sees an opportunity to try out for the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, Marion decides to go for it and succeeds. Unexpectedly, after a serial bomber strikes Radio City with tragic results, Marion and her friend Peter investigate.” (6-13) Jaan Hipp

Also on the list is very popular author, Ruth Ware, with Zero Days. “Jack and her husband Gabe work in computer security. One night, Jack comes home to find Gabe murdered. She’s absolutely devastated and vows to find Gabe’s killer. The police aren’t much help, so she goes rogue, setting the police on a chase to find Jack as she investigates. The excitement builds and you won’t be able to stop reading. With great characters and mounting tension, this is highly recommended.” (6-20) Cari Dubiel

We’re hoping that all of you are safe and comfortable. Last week’s storms affected everyone one way or another. It has been wonderful, however, to see how the community has come together to help those most in need.

It’s Texas and this heat will continue. It is cool in the library, so come in, check out the activities and grab a good book.
