And good books like How Can I Help You by Laura Sims keep rolling in. “Margo moved to Carlyle two years ago to get a fresh start as a librarian, her days filled with helping patrons. But when a new employee is hired, Margo feels unsettled by the curious Patricia. When a patron is discovered dead in the library bathroom, Margo’s carefully crafted, mundane life starts to unravel and may pull Patricia into a tangle of terrifying secrets.” (7-18) Priscilla Garvin
One Summer in Savannah is by Terah Shelton Harris. “This story about forgiveness and family is told from the dual perspectives of Sara, who has not been back to Savannah since she discovered she was pregnant with her rapist’s child; and Jacob, the twin brother of Sara’s rapist, who discovers his niece at the Science Center. As the story progresses, Sara and Jacob form a bond complicated by their connection.” (7-4) Alison Zaya
Thief Liar Lady by DL Soria is “a reimagined Cinderella tale with the political intrigue and violence of Game of Thrones. Lady Aislinn is a revolutionary hiding behind the cover of the meek and beautiful girl the prince fell in love with at the ball. Her plan might work except for the bandit who is now on the loose, the captive prince who gets under her skin, and her conniving stepmother.” (7-11) Kimberly McGee
In Pierce Brown’s Light Bringer, the Reaper is a legend, but he’s also a man named Darrow who wants to return to Mars to his wife and children. This is the sixth in the Red Rising series and promises to be one of the best. (7-25)
According to Katherine Center’s Hello Stranger, “Love isn’t blind, it’s just a little blurry.” After an accident, Sadie Montgomery lands in the hospital with ‘face blindness.’ She can see, but she can’t recognize faces. As she struggles with this new reality, she finds herself falling for two completely different men. . .or are they? (7-11)
Join us Thursday, July 13, for a discussion of Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. And, of course, we’ll have snacks. The soon-to-be movie is the story of the Osage murders in Oklahoma and the birth of the FBI in the 1920s. We meet at 6 p.m. in the program room.
Debbie Thatcher will be here Monday and Tuesday afternoon, July 10 and 11, to help you research your family tree. Call us at 903-575-4180 to sign up for a time slot. You’ll learn how to begin your tree, or if you’re experienced in genealogy, you’ll get some tips on how to dig deeper.
Happy reading and we’ll see you at the library!
