Please come by and meet our newest library family member, Lupe Herrera. Lupe already has a master’s degree in Exercise Science and, I’m happy to say, will begin working on her master’s in Library Science in January. She loves to read and here are a few books she recommends. “The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina by Zoraida Cordova was a book that took me pleasantly by surprise. You are introduced to the matriarch of the Montoyas, Orquidea Divina, and you learn  how she sets roots in America. Flash forward a number of years and her children and grandchildren have received an invitation from Orquidea to her funeral where they will receive their inheritance. This inheritance leads to more questions than answers regarding Orquidea’s life and the magic that surrounds her. This is a book on magical realism, folklore in Latin America and how family binds you to your ancestors.”

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman is the second installment of the Thursday Murder Club. This book was hilarious and kept me engaged just as much as the first book. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim are back and as endearing as ever. Someone Elizabeth knows returns and asks for her help. More of Elizabeth’s past is revealed as the group tracks stolen diamonds, helps an injured friend and catches a murderer. What a ride!”

The Maidens by Alex Michaelides is a suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to find out who was behind the murders. Mariana is struggling with the loss of her husband when she receives a call from her niece telling her that a friend has been found murdered in Cambridge. Her friend was part of a secret society called The Maidens that had been created by Professor Edward Fosca. Mariana believes he is the killer and throws caution to the wind to prove his guilt.”
