LIBRARY CORNER | 08/13/21

With school starting, traffic in the library usually slows down somewhat. We haven’t even seen a lull in people coming and going in August. That’s a good thing! We’re making plans for fall and beyond and hope to offer more services and programs.

For instance, do you need a notary? Two of us are notaries and we are happy to help you free of charge. Along that line, we now have the capability to scan and email documents. Drop by and we’ll show you how to do this.

Book Club meets Thursday, August 19, at 6 p.m. This month’s book is a gem, Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce. Join us for a snack and good conversation. We’re open to suggestions for coming book selections. We don’t have a date for our Pushing the Limits Book Club, but it will meet in September. Go ahead and read the September selection, Born a Crime by Trevor Noah.

Dominoes return Friday, September 3. Drop in at 9:30 Friday morning for a friendly game (or several). This group always has a good time and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone.

Do you like to paint? The Watercolor group resumes Friday, August 17. They’ll continue to meet the first and third Fridays of the month at 10 a.m. Bring your supplies.

Ms. Natalie’s Story Time begins its fall session Tuesday, August 24, at 11 a.m. This time set aside for preschoolers includes stories and crafts. The Preschool Garden will soon be replanted for a fall harvest, too. Also, the Explorium is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-11. Bring your little people!

The Friends of the Library are busy! They will have a table and photo booth at the Cinco de Mayo Celebration on the Square. (Actually, it will be held August 28.) Then, they’ll be at the Grand Opening of the new Sports’ Complex, Thursday, September 9, from 6-9 p.m. Be there for the food, bands and fun.

I’m right in the middle of The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. It’s a quirky read, but a really good one. The narrators are even older than I am, and you don’t know whether their stories are reliable.

Just finished The Hollywood Spy by Susan Elia MacNeal. This series is set during World War II. Most of the books take place in Great Britain. The first book, Mr. Churchill’s Secretary, introduces all of the characters and is the best place to begin.

I’m so excited because Armand Gamache returns in The Madness of Crowds, August 24. The last book took place in Paris, but this one takes him home to Three Pines for Christmas. I love these books! Louise Penny is also teaming up with Hillary Clinton in State of Terror which will be out October 12.

Labor Day will be here before we know it and the library will close September 4-6.

Good books are mandatory, and masks are optional in the library. Happy reading!
