LIBRARY CORNER | 10/22/21

The number one pick from Library Reads for November is All Her Little Secrets by Wanda M. Morris. “All is not as it first seems in this thriller set in present-day Atlanta. In-house attorney Ellice is suddenly elevated to corporate general counsel after her boss’s death, but things don’t add up. This is a beautifully written, entertaining mystery with on target social commentary about workplace politics and racial and sexual discrimination. This one’s for fans of Hank Phillippi Ryan, Attica Locke, and SA Cosby.” (11-2) Nina Radakovich

The Fastest Way to Fall is by Denise Williams. “Absolutely loved the body-positive message of this fun romance between a lifestyle web reviewer and the fitness coach she’s supposed to be evaluating. Wonderful, well-written characters make this a winner. It’s for fans of Olivia Dade and Kate Clayborn.” (11-2) Rebecca Moe

Freya Marske begins a new trilogy with A Marvellous Light. “An Edwardian baronet mistakenly becomes the bureaucratic liaison to a hidden magical society in this trilogy starter. Features great character development and a strong story line weaving fantasy, mystery, and a study in manners, all with a twist of humor. This one’s for fans of Zen Cho and VE Schwab.” (11-2) Courtenay Reece

Our Pushing the Limits Book Club selection for the November 4 meeting is Useful Delusions: The Power and Paradox of the Self-Deceiving Brain by Shankar Vedantum. Join us at 6 p.m.

The PQ Book Club November choice is The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Richardson. The book is based on the Kentucky Pack Horse Librarians, commissioned by President Franklin Roosevelt to deliver books to hard-to-reach Appalachia. The central character is the last of the Kentucky blue-skin people. This is a great book!

Just finished Striking Range by Margaret Mizushima, the latest in the Timber Creek K9 Mysteries. While not as strong as the earlier books, this was still a keeper. And, at lunch I began State of Terror by Louise Penny and Hillary Clinton. So far, so good. I love Penny’s Armand Gamache books and hope this one’s as entertaining.

Our Friends Chili Dinner will be over by the time you read this. Let me tell you, the library smells amazing! Come and see us and happy reading!
