April 8 Solar Eclipse Update: Mount Pleasant Hotels and RV Parks Sold Out
A local planning committee including our City emergency management leaders has been assessing and preparing for the impact of the solar eclipse and the anticipated influx of people in our community for more than a year.
This citizen-focused approach has included publishing information to help residents and businesses prepare for what could be anywhere from 15,000-50,000 visitors coming to Mount Pleasant to view the eclipse.
As predicted, hotels and RV parks are sold out for the Solar Eclipse with reports of some of the last available hotel rooms booking for as much as $599 per night. This will provide a great flow of customers from all parts of the U.S. and even the world to retail, restaurants and other service businesses that are prepared.
While the City does not have the resources to plan a large scale event that could attract literally thousands of attendees, our fire, police, EMS, streets, parks and other staff are preparing now to respond to not only our citizens’ needs, but those of our guests during this busy time.
Whether you make plans to gather at home to view the eclipse with your family and friends, or visit one of the City’s 14 beautiful parks… just be sure to order those ISO-RATED safety glasses!
