City of Mount Pleasant Hires David Gonzales as Director of Development Services
The City of Mount Pleasant welcomes David Gonzales as Director of Development Services. David brings over 20 years of experience in municipal government planning, zoning and code enforcement, and most recently served as Planning and Zoning Manager with the City of Rockwall, Texas.
David’s daily operations include working with developers, citizens and other stakeholders regarding new development, on-going project management, the plan review process and drafting ordinances in accordance with the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which was recently updated.
“The Comprehensive Plan serves as a guide on how the City will develop over the next 30 years,” explains David. “There are many implementation strategies and action plans designed to enhance the quality of life for Mount Pleasant over the foreseeable future, and my goal is to work within these guidelines, strategies and principles to assure that Mount Pleasant remains on its path to achieve its vision.”
“We are thrilled to welcome David to our Executive staff team,” said City Manager Ed Thatcher. “In addition to extensive experience in all areas of Community Development, he shares our vision and values for public service.”

David graduated from Texas A&M University – Commerce with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree and he is an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) recipient. His wife of 34 years has worked for the Garland Independent School District throughout her career, and they have a 24-year-old son.
“The City of Mount Pleasant has a rich history of many accomplishments, and we are proud to be a part of this community,” he said.
