Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter Reaches Critical Capacity

What did the staff team at the Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter do when the shelter was not just at full capacity last week, but full of puppies under the age of seven months?

They got creative and worked quickly to organize a two-day free adoption event on January 18 and 19 that resulted in 40 puppies going to good homes.

“Unfortunately, when the shelter reaches critical capacity, we are not able to accept any additional animals until we can make more space,” said Police Chief Mark Buhman, who oversees the City facility. “We are very proud of our staff for putting in the extra time and effort to overcome this problem, and extremely grateful to the citizens who responded to the need for help by adopting a rescue pet into their family.”

The waived adoption fees and spay/neuter vouchers for each puppy were covered by donations made to the shelter by members of the community throughout the year.

“If you can’t adopt a rescue pet, you can still be a part of the solution by making a donation to the shelter,” said Chief Buhman. “Sadly, we anticipate reaching critical capacity on an ongoing basis, and the donated funds will enable us to hold more free adoption events to get these puppies, kittens and mature animals into loving homes.”
