Summer reading is going so well! If you haven’t signed your children up, drop by this week. If you have signed up, turn in their reading log (3 hours) and they’ll receive a local restaurant coupon and other goodies. Check in at the table as you enter the library.
Also, we’re trying something new this summer. If your child reads something from the 2X2, Bluebonnet or Lone Star Reading lists, they will receive a Brag Tag. Some of the books will have a QR code on the cover. Scan it with your phone and you’ll see a child giving a book review. If your child would like to be included by making a video, just let us know and we’ll help you choose a book that needs a review. We’ll even film the review. The kids are really enjoying this “techie” addition to reading.
I’m at the end of James Rollins’ newest Sigma Force, Kingdom of Bones. It’s downloaded on our Kindles, and I also downloaded the audio version. It’s fun reading when I have time and listening when I’m in the car or cooking dinner. The latest installment takes place in the Congo. This book was already in the works when Covid 19 struck, but oddly enough, the virus unleashed in this fictional work is named Omnivirus. As usual, the members of Sigma race against time to save the world. It’s particularly nice that they have brought back Tucker and his dog to help them find both the origin of the virus and a cure. If you like exciting adventures, give James Rollins a try. His first Sigma is Sandstorm. Rollins does so much research that you sometimes wonder where the fiction ends and nonfiction begins. They are real page turners!
Look for us Friday at the Juneteenth Celebration in Oaklawn Park. We’ll have something for the kids and, hopefully, we’ll even be able to issue library cards. This is our trial run for some wireless technology. We’re crossing our fingers.
Happy reading! We’ll see you at Oaklawn or in the library.
