We have big September plans for your little people. Preschool Story Time resumes Tuesday, September 6, at 11 a.m. Ms. Natalie has been busy preparing stories and crafts for her preschoolers.

Play, Grow and Learn begins September 12. If you have a child ages one to three years old, please come by and register. This program is one of the most important ones we do each year. Drop by and talk to Jeanette or Natalie.

The September Library Reads list arrived today and their top book is The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell. “In 16th-century Italy, teen Lucrezia de Medici passes from her father’s control to her husband’s, with neither considering her a person with a right to her own life. O’Farrell’s poetic writing pulls you into this tale based on the likely subject of Robert Browning’s poem ‘My Last Duchess.’ This is for fans of Geraldine Brooks, Isabel Allende and Hilary Mantel.” (9-6) Diana Armstrong

Bindle Punk Bruja is by Desideria Mesa. “Luna is both a daughter of Mexican immigrants trying to establish herself in the 1920s Kansas City underworld and a bruja, an earth witch who can read emotions and bend others to her will. Complex character relationships enhance this entertaining historical fantasy. If you liked The Chosen and the Beautiful and The Gods of Jade and Shadow, you’ll enjoy this one.” (9-13) Gwen Inman

Kristina McMorris’s new book is The Ways We Hide. “When World War II starts, Fenna Vos is recruited by MI9 to use her skills to make escape aids. Based on true events about one woman’s journey, this is a thrilling look at a little-known part of the war effort, with well-developed characters and terrifying adventures.” (9-6) Melanie Liechty

I’m in the middle of Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. It’s absolutely wonderful! Take a look at online reviews and that will make you want to read it. I’ll admit that it’s a little strange that one of the main characters is an octopus named Marcellus, but you’ll quickly grow to love him and other characters in this unusual book.

We’re looking forward to rain and cooler weather. It’s a great time to visit the library. Happy reading!
