Mount Pleasant Sports Complex Grand Opening
Thank you to everyone who helped make the Grand Opening of the Mount Pleasant Sports Complex on September 9 a happy and fun success.
From the hard-working Parks & Recreation Department staff who were beautifying this amazing new amenity right down to the final minutes, to the local businesses who participated…including Kristi Stutts, downtown merchant and owner of Art Flair, who created the fabulous balloon decor; John Johnson and his crew with K-Sounds who worked all day to set up the stage/light/sound equipment; and MP resident Ms. Sofia C., who stepped in to cover additional food choices. The 1,000+ attendees relished her delicious tacos with fresh-made tortillas as well as other yummy food truck items, PLUS the free hot dogs, ice cream by Wild Honey Creamery and Kona Ice snow cones.
The City also thanks Perla Ayala, president of the Mount Pleasant Youth Soccer Association, her board and players, who kicked off the first-ever soccer season in the park during the event; Scott Glover, owner of the Mid America Flight Museum, who brought the excitement with the landing and takeoff of his Vietnam era Huey helicopter; and Memphis Soul and Las Altenas Mariachis for putting it all to music with their top-notch performances.
Of course, the star of the night was the Sports Complex itself, and the Flanagan, Niblett and Cornelius families for whom the streets in the park have been named after to recognize their legacies in Mount Pleasant.
Watch for the highlights video below and come enjoy this new city amenity.
NOTE: The City continues to seek local/regional food trucks who can commit to future City gatherings! If that’s you, please email Claribel Banda with your information.
