PILGRIM’S & JBS USA INVEST IN THE COMMUNITY

MAYOR’S MESSAGE

Mayor Tracy Craig, Sr.On behalf of the City of Mount Pleasant, I want to once again extend our gratitude for the incredible investment Pilgrim’s and JBS USA are making in our community through the Hometown Strong Initiative and pledge of $1.5 million to build a new community center in Oak Lawn Park.

On Friday, the initial $840,000 was transferred to the City, and I am very excited to announce that the project is moving full steam ahead! The City currently has architects working on the plans and design specifications so that we may put the project out to bid.

Once the project is bid, Pilgrim’s will transfer the balance of the $1.5 million. As soon as we have architectural renderings and specifications to share with citizens, we will certainly do so. I can assure you that this is going to be a new amenity of which we can all be proud and enjoy.

Long before the pandemic, Pilgrim’s was a valued stakeholder in Mount Pleasant that demonstrated its commitment to the City and our citizens as an employer. During this crisis, that corporate responsibility has only increased as Pilgrim’s works to make a meaningful impact for so many of our residents who are facing unprecedented challenges, as well as for the generations to come.

Thank you again to everyone involved in this project, including my colleagues on the City Council and City staff. We are proud of the example Pilgrim’s has set through the Hometown Strong Initiative, and remain proud that Pilgrim’s is a part of our community.
